How it works

BillRunway plans around paychecks — not calendar months — so you always know what’s due before the next check lands.

Pay periods

Each paycheck opens a window. Every bill due before the next check sits under that paycheck.

If you and a partner get paid a few days apart — or you have two jobs in the same week — you can combine nearby checks into one period so income and bills share the same plan.

When every bill in a period is marked deducted or skipped, the period closes and those amounts stay frozen. Upcoming periods stay open for planning until it’s their turn.

Bank check & set-aside

Enter the balance you see at your bank. BillRunway tells you if what’s left covers what’s still needed.

Still needed is bills not deducted yet, plus any money this check should park for shorter periods ahead. Left to spend is what’s free after that. On track means the bank covers it.

Set-aside is a live plan, not a one-time fixed transfer — it updates when bills move or short periods reshuffle. When you’ve parked the money, confirm it the same way you’d confirm a bill.

Variable paychecks

Hourly or commission pay doesn’t have to fight a fixed template.

Mark an income source as variable, then enter each check’s actual amount on Pay Periods. The plan rebuilds around what you really got paid.
